Teaching

Medical Students

We are proud to be a teaching practice and be involved with teaching a wide range of students. Medical students are studying to become doctors, and we host students in their 3rd, 4th and 5th years from both Newcastle University and Hull York Medical School.

Seeing real-life patients and learning from qualified GPs is a vital part of their medical training. They learn an enormous amount from the patients they see and we are always very grateful for patient's support with this.

The students are always supervised by a qualified clinician and if the student is present at a consultation, the patient’s permission will always be sought. Our medical students are bound by same confidentiality principles as all our staff. Patients are not obliged to see medical students if they do not wish to. If you do not feel comfortable with a student being present, this will not affect your care in any way.

Physician Associate Students

We also host Physician Associate (PA) students from Newcastle University.

A Physician Associate, or 'PA', is a new healthcare professional role who, while not a doctor, works to the medical model, with the attitudes, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care and treatment within the General Practice team.

Our PA students will always be supervised by a qualified clinician, in the same way as our medical students.

We are grateful for our patient's help with their learning and training.
